Florida May Ban Chocolate Milk From Schools
Sep-24-2010

One of kids' favorite lunchtime beverages may soon become a thing of the past.

Florida may become the first state in the country to ban chocolate milk in public school cafeterias, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

The Florida Board of Education voted Tuesday on a plan that will remove all sugary drinks in schools, including soda and flavored milk.

In fact, the board is considering allowing only three types of drinks for younger children -- water, 100 percent juice, and plain, low-fat milk. High school students would be allowed diet sodas and other low-calorie drinks.

Earlier this year, the board was planning to leave the decision up to the federal government. After seeing no progress, they took the issue back over.
