Colorado woman catches alleged burglar on her webcamJan-03-2011
A suspected burglar was under arrest after a woman who set up her webcam to watch her dog remotely while she was away instead captured a thief ransacking her apartment, police said on Thursday.
When a Denver television station aired the video, a viewer recognized the burglar and notified police who then arrested Peter Jones, 47, on burglary charges, Denver Police Det. John White said.
"We developed information that led to the suspect based on the video that captured the burglar in action," White said
The victim, only identified by her first name, Claire, told KUSA-TV that the thief entered her apartment in Denver's Capitol Hill neighborhood on Tuesday.
When she logged on to her cell phone from an application that is linked to her computer, she saw a man riffling her through her bedroom.
She said the application is an iCam, which can be downloaded to Apple and Droid cell phones, and allows a person to remotely monitor live video feeds.
The thief stole her iPad and some other electronics that belonged to her and her roommate, she said.
