From Andrea Metcalf - Is Water Boring Your Routine?
Oct-02-2012

Most people are told to drink water, water and more water during and after their workout to refuel. But there comes a point when you realize water isn't enough, not to mention BORING! When you workout, your body loses more than just water, and those nutrients need to be replaced too. But, how do you replace nutrients and sore muscles with more than just water?
During an intense workout lasting longer than 60 minutes, your body loses more than just water, but also potassium and sodium. You must refuel after your workout with something that will replenish these nutrients.
It's often likely that after working out you feel as if you can eat whatever you want. But, that's the wrong mindset to have if you want to maintain a healthy lifestyle. It might make sense that since you lose sodium while working out, you should replenish with something salty. However, eating a salty snack - Such as pretzels and chips - are things to avoid. Potassium is more important to replenish than sodium.
If you're going to drink water, you should also have a great snack that provides an equal amount of potassium and sodium. A banana with peanut butter can do the trick. You can even step it up a bit by adding the ingredients to a blender with low-fat chocolate milk to make a healthy smoothie.
If you're in to sports energy drinks, the G Series Recovery Shake. Gatorade's G2 series provides protein to ensure the "competition doesn't stop."
The G Series Recovery Shake contains comes in vanilla and chocolate. They contain 270 calories per serving and 20 grams of protein! It's a quick way to replenish after a hard workout-- While getting all the nutrients your body needs.
Bottom line is, working out burns calories and your body needs to refuel. Be smart and think about what you're eating after a hard workout. Water alone isn't enough.
