Better Living
From Andrea Metcalf - 5 Steps To Healthy Eating
Feb-09-2016

Diet is a four-letter word that most people do not want to think about (let alone stick to). But eating healthy can be as easy as counting to five. Here are five steps to eating healthier and changing your diet.

1. Think healthy. Changing your mindset is the first step to eating healthier. Just keep focusing on the positive results and leave the guilt of your past behind. And even if you make a choice that doesn't fit into the "good eating plan", allow yourself to move past it and get back on the road.

2. Veg out. Your vegetables may be more important than your fruits when you look at your diet and the nutrients they contain. Focus on at least 2 vegetables at every meal and let the fruits be your treat. It's not about depriving yourself but rather indulging in more of the right stuff that helps you body stay healthy.

3. Lean out. Lean out with protein that is. Lean proteins are key to cell structure and rebuilding. They also aide in helping control appetite. Think lean meats, beans and legumes striving for at least 15-25 grams of protein at each meal.

4. Fiber. Focusing on your fiber intake can be easy if you jumpstart your day with a supplement like psyllium. Many products contain this simple additive that can be added to a glass of water or smoothie in the morning and blast 4 or more grams of fiber into your diet.

5. Zero-calorie water. Not only is your body made up of 75 percent water but this zero-calorie beverage should be your beverage of choice. Try to drink at least one glass of water at eat meal and before any snack.

Practicing these simple steps can lead to a healthier body weight and happier life. Who wants to diet anyway?
