Actor Richard Dreyfuss to speak Monday at USD on civics
Jan-17-2011

Oscar-winning actor Richard Dreyfuss will host a discussion Monday at the University of San Diego on current American civil discourse.

The talk will be from 10 a.m. to noon.

Dreyfuss, who won an Oscar for his performance in 1977's The Goodbye Girl, is a proponent of restoring civics into American culture. The event, called "It's Time for a Talk," will coincide with a similar discussion in New York. Members of the public can participate by attending or logging on to www.timeforatalk.org. C-SPAN will also broadcast the two concurrent events.

Dreyfuss, an Encinitas resident, and other panelists will discuss citizen anxiety over America's future, and knowledge of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Dreyfuss founded the Dreyfuss Initiative, which works to restore public discourse into the country's future political scene by pushing for civics curricula in U.S. schools.

The event is free. Tickets are available by logging on to www.thedreyfussinitiative.org.
