Apple reveals lifespan of iPhone
Apr-18-2016

iPhones and iPads are only expected to last three years, according to information from Apple.

The company released the figure in a new environmental report on its website.

The report also stated Mac computers and Apple TV devices were assumed to last four years, and the Apple Watch three years.

However, it's an assumption, not an expectation.

Many Apple devices much longer than the estimates provided. The company has put the figures together to determine how Apple devices affect the environment over their intended lifespan.

The figures are close to how often many users upgrade their devices, not matter what brand.

Apple also makes an effort to keep older devices relevant by making its operating software free and available for older iPhones, iPads and Macs.

Its cut-off point for its current iOS is an iPhone 4s which is four and a-half years old.
