It all started 30 years ago on a rainy February morning. It really was a rainy day, but I will spare you the details. Doug likes to call me, "a true radio brat” and he is right! My dad grew up loving, living and breathing, radio. As a kid, I remember him working for many of the big stations in Los Angeles including KFI, KRLA, KROQ and KIEV. Most of my baby pictures show me perched in front of a microphone.
Growing up I never really had an interest in being in radio. At first, I wanted to be a checker at KMART and a ballerina. When that blew over I thought I would be a teacher or a psychologist, although, I secretly wanted to be a singer. In 1983, after working for years in radio, my dad started his own company, Cable Radio Network, now known as CRN Digital Talk Radio.
When I was 12, I started working for him during the summer and at 15, (after the Northridge earthquake knocked down my high school) I started working for him almost full time. I did payroll, ordered music, created promotions, and did some marketing. If I could learn from it, I did it. Eventually, I settled into Marketing and Public Relations, and after a 9 year run in college (hey, I was working full time) I got my degree in Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations. Currently, after I get off the air, I am the Vice President of Sales and Marketing and I oversee all the public relations, marketing and sales operations at CRN. I really love my day job and working in the cable television and radio industries. In fact, in 2001 I was named “Woman to Watch” by Women in Cable and Telecommunications. Then in 2005, I became president of the Southern California Chapter of the organization.
In 2000, my dad was running late for his afternoon radio show (carried on CRN and other broadcast stations). He called panicked and asked me to sit in for him. I was beyond scared, but the show had to go on. Turns out, I liked it, he liked it and the listeners liked it. So from then on, I became a fill-in host on “The PM Show.” The more I hosted the more comfortable I got. Therefore, when Doug (an old friend of my dad’s) told him he was looking for a younger, female co-host, my dad suggested he talk to me.
On St. Patrick’s Day 2006, I auditioned and clicked with Doug and the gang and the rest is history. I have loved waking up with all of you every morning and working with our absolutely fabulous and quirky team! It is an amazing way to start the day. In my spare time (which is rare these days), I love catching up with my friends and family, watching movies, volunteering for the Alzheimer’s Association (or some of my other causes), shopping, reading, cooking, wine tasting (I'm a sommelier) and travelling.
