Johnny Cash Museum Opens In Nashville
May 23, 2013

The Johnny Cash Museum, located in downtown Nashville, had its soft opening in late April, but will be throwing an all-day Grand Opening event on May 30.

For founder Bill Miller, the opening marks the end of a long process -- one that has taken a lot of twists and turns since they began the process in the winter of 2012. But, with good reason -- he wanted to get it right.

"It's been the longest journey of my life," Miller tells Billboard. "There were so many challenges, but also this deep-rooted responsibility that I have -some may call it a sickness - to create authenticity and present something to people to make them feel as if they knew Johnny. There have been hundreds of nights where we have been up designing things, wording, re-wording, designing, and scrapping."

Miller says he and his staff tried to approach the Museum from several different viewpoints. "You have to look at it through the eyes of someone who may have discovered him through 'Walk The Line,' or someone who has been a fan of his since the 1950s. Our audience is all of those - from a five year old child to their great grandmother. So, putting something like this together isn't simply a matter of taking a bunch of cool memorabilia and hanging it on the wall. If you walk through, you'll find that every artifact plays a role as a supporting star in the overall story."

Man runs out of gas, sets up drum kit on Interstate
May 23, 2013

Maryland State Police said a man who ran out of gas on the interstate decided to set up his drum set and practice until help arrived.

A state police spokeswoman said troopers spotted the man playing his drums on the shoulder of Interstate 695 in Baltimore around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and stopped to talk to him, The Baltimore Sun reported Wednesday.

The man told troopers he had run out of gas and decided to practice his drums until help arrived, the spokeswoman said.

The man's vehicle was refueled by a State Highway Administration truck and the drummer was sent on his way without a citation, the spokeswoman said.

NASA funds project to make space meals with 3-D printer
May 23, 2013

NASA won't be printing out pizzas on Mars anytime soon, but the space agency is paying out $125,000 to study the use of 3-D printing technology for food preparation in space.

"We will be building the components for a prototype" over the grant's six-month period, David Irwin, principal investigator for the project at Texas-based Systems and Materials Research Consultancy, told NBC News.

The ideas is to use a 3-D printer to turn generic mixes of starch, protein and fat into textured foodie-type elements, and then add flavorings with an inkjet device. The result? Theoretically, you could have a warm slice of crusty-type starch material topped with fake cheese, sauce and pepperoni.

SMRC's Irwin was reluctant to discuss the project in detail, in part because the contract with NASA for a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research grant had not yet been signed. But he was optimistic about the long-term prospect: "We're going to do great things," he said.

NASA spokesman David Steitz said the contract was finally signed on Wednesday. The project is part of the space agency's effort to widen the menu options for future space travelers when they head out to Mars or a near-Earth asteroid. Right now, astronauts are eating mostly pre-packaged, pre-processed, shelf-stable foods. But that won't work for a trip to the Red Planet.

Safe Grilling for Memorial Day
May 23, 2013

Memorial Day is around the corner and SupermarketGuru wants you to be fully prepared. Before you clean off the grill and start the burners here are SupermarketGuru's top tips for safe grilling:

Never use a grill indoors. Use the grill at least 10 feet away from your house or any building. Do not use the grill in a garage, breezeway, carport, porch, under an awning or any covering that can catch fire.

Never leave the grill unattended, especially when small children and pets are present. Be cautious of overhead obstructions, including tree branches, while grilling. Always keep a fire extinguisher handy when grilling and know how to use it. And of course follow the manufacturer's instructions that accompany the grill.

Gas Grill Safety Tips
Check the tubes leading into the burner for any blockage from insects, spiders, or grease. Use a pipe cleaner or wire to clear blockage and push it thorough to the main part of the burner. Check grill hoses for cracking, brittleness, holes and leaks. Make sure there are no kinks in the hose or tubing.

Replace scratched or frayed hose connectors, which can eventually leak gas. Check for gas leaks, following the manufacturer's instructions, if you smell gas or when you reconnect the grill to the propane tank.

Keep lit cigarettes, or open flames away from a leaking grill. Do not attempt to repair the tank valve or the appliance yourself. Take it to your local home improvement store, hardware store or a qualified appliance repairperson. You should use caution when storing your propane tank. Always keep the containers upright. Never store a spare tank under or near the grill or indoors. Never store or use flammable liquids, like gasoline, near the grill.

Be sure your propane tank has an over-fill prevention device. Never keep a filled tank in a hot car or car trunk. Heat will cause the gas pressure to increase, which may open the relief valve and allow gas to escape. You should use extreme caution and always follow the manufacturer's instructions when connecting or disconnecting a propane tank to your grill.

Charcoal Grill Safety Tips
Charcoal should never be used indoors, even if ventilation is provided. Since charcoal produces carbon monoxide fumes, do not store the grill indoors until the charcoal is completely extinguished. Never use gasoline or kerosene to light a charcoal fire. Both can explode. Never attempt to restart the flame by adding additional lighting fluid to an already lit grill. Keep a spray bottle of water nearby to handle flare-ups while grilling.

Be sure to place your grill on a flat, level surface so it won't tip over.
Wait until the coals have completely cooled (may take a few hours) before disposing of them. Remember, coals get HOT - up to 1000 degrees F. Use insulated, flame-retardant mitts when cooking or handling any part of the grill. Also use long-handled barbecue tongs and utensils for safe handling of food and coals.

From Warren Eckstein - Court Decision May Allow Students to Bring Pets to School With them
May 22, 2013

Pending the decision in a lawsuit filed by the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) against the University of Nebraska, students could be allowed to have their pets live with them in their dorm rooms.

On behalf of Brittany Hamilton, HUD sued the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) for not allowing her to have her dog live in her dorm room with her. Hamilton said she wanted her dog in her room to assist with her anxiety and depression.

HUD is suing on the grounds of a violation of Hamilton's rights under the Fair Housing Act (FHA). The rule states that it is unlawful to deny dwelling to a person based on their "handicap." It also states that eligible persons may accommodate a wide array of "assistance animals."

"Assistance animals" go far beyond typical service animals (e.g., seeing-eye dogs) as they include animals that provide mental or emotional support.

UNK argues that their on-campus accommodations should not be considered a "dwelling" as defined by the FHA and because the housing is only temporary. UNK argued further that their accommodations are not for residential purposes, but rather for educational purposes.

Justice Department affidavit labels Fox News journalist as possible 'co-conspirator'
May 22, 2013

A Fox News correspondent was accused in a Justice Department affidavit of being a possible criminal "co-conspirator" for his alleged role in publishing sensitive security information -- in a leak case that takes the highly unusual step of claiming a journalist broke the law.

According to court documents, the Justice Department obtained a portfolio of information about Fox News' James Rosen's conversations and visits to the State Department. This included a search warrant for his personal emails.

The effort follows that by the department to secretly obtain two months of phone records from Associated Press journalists as part of a separate leak probe. The department in this case, though, went a step further -- as an FBI agent claimed there's evidence the Fox News correspondent broke the law, "at the very least, either as an aider, abettor and/or co-conspirator."

Michael Clemente, Fox News' executive vice president of news, defended Rosen in a statement issued Monday afternoon.

"We are outraged to learn today that James Rosen was named a criminal co-conspirator for simply doing his job as a reporter," Clemente said. "In fact, it is downright chilling. We will unequivocally defend his right to operate as a member of what up until now has always been a free press."

Man Directs Midtown Traffic for NJ Transit While Drunk
May 22, 2013

A man who doesn't work for New Jersey Transit but directed traffic at a bus lot in midtown while wearing an agency vest was regularly drunk on the job, possibly endangering commuters and pedestrians until NBC 4 New York began investigating.

During one recent rush hour, with buses, cars, bikers and pedestrians all in a hurry to get home, NBC 4 New York's cameras caught the man at his post outside the 37th Street lot. Moments later, he left and hid behind a portable toilet to drink something concealed in a brown paper bag. And instead of returning to work, he headed down the block to a liquor store.

Later he directed commuter buses in and out of the lot, using a red flag, while another NJ Transit worker at the lot slept in a bus.

When NBC 4 New York confronted the man, he admitted he was drunk and took a drink from a vodka bottle on camera.
