10-Year-Old Writes Book After Father's Death
Dec-07-2010

Demetrius Martin's journal became a book. "I Really Miss My Dad" is Martin's account of how he deals with the loss of his father.

"I wrote this book to help other kids that have lost a loved one," Martin said. "I want to teach them how to deal with their feelings."

Martin said he hopes to highlight the children and families that are left behind after violent killings.

Martin will serve as keynote speaker on Dec. 15 at The Open Arms Annual Memorial Service hosted by St. John Health System.

He said he plans to partner with violence awareness programs and tour local school districts in order to spread his message.

"I want bad people out there to know that their violence doesn't end with the victim," Martin said. "It affects the people that loved that person."
