The American Medical Association now says obesity is a disease and requires medical treatment and prevention.

Doctors say classifying obesity as a disease will change the way the medical community handles the epidemic. According to NBC News, one in three Americans is overweight. Doctors say carrying around extra weight can cause inflammation and high blood pressure.

The American Medical Association says there's no pill to cure obesity but classifying it as disease could change the way society deals with it and gives the public a new set of resources to stay healthy.
