From Tom Parsons - Say It Ain't So Joe Frontier Airlines charge up to $100 for Carry OnsMay 3, 2013
Last night I thought I had a nightmare when I was dreaming of another airlines was going to charge for carry-on baggage.
Well when I woke up and pinched myself it was to my surprise Frontier Airlines, which has hubs in Denver, Milwaukee, and Kansas City, was going to start charging up to $100 for Carry-On Baggage.
Currently the king of fees, with has carry on fees and seat assignment fees etc., is Spirit Airlines. It's always best to prepay for seat assignments, carry on and checked bags.
If you do not prepay for your carry on and try to pay at the gate, you will force to cough up to $100 at the gate. You can go back out of security and pay $50 for carry-on bags 24 hours or less prior to take off. Seat assignments are free.
No date has been set when the new carry-on fees will take place but the rumor mill is in summer 2013. Frontier also plans to charge $1.99 for bottle water, soft drinks, and coffee (with coffee you do get free refills...YEA!).
Here's what it comes down to, the US Airlines have made over 6 billion dollars in extra fees last year and made a profit of under 3 billion. So for all of you who think fees are going to fly soon, think again.
As to carry-on baggage, this is ridiculous. The only way this fee will go away is protesting to Congress. US Airlines have promised Congress they would not charge for carry-on luggage. But as we know sometimes promises are broken. It may take an Act of Congress to impose regulations to forbid airlines from charging fees on carry-on baggage.
