Sears Salutes Us, We Salute Sears
by Mark Scheinbaum
BOCA RATON, FLA. (Oct. 2, 2003)--Sears,
Roebuck & Co. was the Wal-Mart of its day, but still deserves an economic
vote of confidence from American consumers. It's not just what they do, but how
they do it. It's about putting its money where its corporate mouth
is, and fully supporting U.S. Servicemen and women.
Few companies of the size and stature of Sears,
keep paying full salary and family benefits to men and women called to active
duty in the National Guard and Reserves. Other companies do the same, but very
few make the full commitment of the century-old solid rock of retail of the American
heartland.
Sears
has streamlined stores, found a tool, clothing, auto, tire, and jewelry
niche in a discount-dominated retail world of Target, J.C. Penny, Costco,
Wal-Mart and others. They are surviving and growing an online business
which, well, duplicates the old Sears mail-order catalog which was
the innovative "internet" of its day. A Franklin Stove delivered from
Framingham to Fresno, or Fargo; chicken wire made in Texas delivered
to your farm in California, or perhaps a hat designed in New York arriving
in perfect shape in New Orleans.
One of the best websites on this planet
is David Emery's www.urbanlegends.com which
debunks and deflates many internet hoaxes and rumors. With full thanks
to his story at this site, here is his tale of Sears. Enjoy! And thank
a Sears employee or manager during your next visit.
