Missing a wallaby?
If so, Pennsylvania Game Commission officials want to know.
Game officials said they captured one such aforementioned wallaby in Crawford County in the northwestern section of the state on Wednesday afternoon. The animal, which resembles a small kangaroo, was tranquilized and is being kept in a licensed facility until its owner is found.
In Pennsylvania, anyone who owns a wallaby has to have a license to keep exotic animals, but game officials said no one with such a license has reported missing the animal. But that does mean the lost critter necessarily is illegal. Game officials said the wallaby could have strayed across the Ohio border, 30 miles west, where a permit is not needed.
The wallaby, a member of the marsupial family, is a native of Australia and surrounding islands.
