'Modern Family' cast going back to work, but salary dispute drags on
'Modern Family' cast going back to work, but salary dispute drags on
Jul-26-2012

The cast of "Modern Family" will be back at work Thursday (July 26), but that doesn't mean that the actors have resolved their salary dispute with 20th Century Fox TV.

The studio canceled a scheduled table read on Tuesday after five of the hit comedy's adult cast members didn't attend. Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara then filed a lawsuit on Wednesday (Ed O'Neill later joined as well) seeking to get out of their current contracts as they seek sizable raises for Season 4 of the very profitable show.

Negotiations between the actors and 20th Century Fox are still going on, but the actors have agreed to attend a table read Thursday morning, Deadline reports. The site says that despite the hardball tactic of going to court, the actors don't want to hurt a show that has been very good to them, so they'll continue to work while negotiations continue.

The actors are seeking sizable raises over their reported $65,000-per-episode salaries from last season (O'Neill, who's also looking for a pay increase, reportedly earned $105,000 per episode). "Modern Family" was the highest-rated scripted show on TV last season among adults 18-49 (tying with "The Big Bang Theory"). It averaged about 13 million viewers while generating more than $160 million in ad revenue for ABC. It also has a syndication deal in place with USA.
