From Uri Geller - Autographs and Fame
From Uri Geller - Autographs and Fame
May 6, 2016

Whenever I walk in the flea market in Old Jaffa I see strange and unique objects and many a time they are displayed in a rather curious way like this one.

Walking the streets here I am always inundated by people who want my autograph and a quick selfie. But I am always happy for a photo or sign something. It's a pleasure. And let's be frank about this, it's also my job.

Since I left Israel in 1972 I could have not become well known on my own. Millions of people helped- you've joined in psychic experiments, you have flooded TV and radio stations with your calls, and of course you read my FB page!

I am an entertainer at heart, and I need an audience. That's why, if you meet me someday, I will want to know more about you than simply your name: I will ask about your family, and your ambitions, and your beliefs, and I will try to write an inscription which sums up our unique encounter.

I draw my energy from my audiences. Every time people tell me they remember a TV appearance that opened their minds, or remind me of an autograph I signed decades ago, I get a buzz of sheer positive energy, and that empowering energy I now send back to you with love!

From Steve Weisman - Hacking group Anonymous threatens world banks
From Steve Weisman - Hacking group Anonymous threatens world banks
May 6, 2016

The world banking system is an increasing target of hackers and cybercriminals. The recent cyber bank robbery of the Bangladesh Central Bank in which hackers succeeded in stealing approximately 81 million dollars is just the tip of the iceberg. I reported to you in February of 2015 about the exploits of the Russian cybergang Carbanak that stole as much as a billion dollars from up to a hundred banks worldwide. The full extent of the vulnerability of banks to cybercrime is still unknown because it is believed that many banks that have been victimized by cybercriminals don't report the thefts to regulatory authorities due to vague standards mandating the reporting of such security breaches.

Now the international hacking collective Anonymous has announced on YouTube a new month-long campaign they are launching against banks around the world. They are referring to this campaign as Operation Icarus. Already, Anonymous has managed to take down the website of the Bank of Greece for a short period of time. The Bank of Greece has indicated, however, that no personal information was accessed and no data was lost. It remains to be seen how serious a threat is posed by the Anonymous' campaign against the banks, but it will be interesting to see what happens over the next month.

Here is a link to the video announcement of Anonymous of its campaign against the banks of the world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpGWaa3uCNo

TIPS

The vulnerabilities in the interconnected world banking system as well as vulnerabilities in the security of individual banks have been and are being exposed by hackers such as those in Carbanak and those responsible for the hacking of the Central Bank of Bangladesh. Greater attention to cybersecurity by banks around the world is critical. In addition, regulators both in the United States and around the world need to establish new standards by which all banks must operate to safeguard their accounts. As for we, the depositors in these institutions, the best we can do is monitor our own accounts regularly for fraudulent activity and make sure that we are not the weakest link when it comes to protecting our user name and password when doing online banking. We should also use dual factor authentication when doing online banking as an additional security measure.

From Warren Eckstein - Animals get to use their own bathrooms at JFK airport
From Warren Eckstein - Animals get to use their own bathrooms at JFK airport
May 4, 2016

The 70-square-foot room, at JFK's sprawling Terminal 4, allows dogs and other animals to relieve themselves without needing to exit the building to find a place to go outside - a step that requires an annoying second trip through the security line.

"We had seen an increase of passengers traveling with pets and we decided to do it sooner rather than later," said Susana Cunha, vice president of the management company that operates the terminal.

Guide and service dogs, emotional support animals and other pets traveling with passengers are all welcome to use the facilities.

A federal regulation will require that all airports that service over 10,000 passengers per year install a pet relief area in every terminal by this August. Airports that already have them include Dulles International outside Washington D.C., Chicago's O'Hare and Seattle-Tacoma International.

"With long flights and short transit time frames, passengers would not have enough time with plane changes to come back through security," said Karen Greis, a consumer services manager for the Guide Dog Foundation, a nonprofit that trains service dogs and participated in the design of the new facility. "Having relief areas inside the terminal is a stress reliever for the handlers."
